Te Henga takes its name from the long foredunes that run along the black sand, said to resemble the gunwale of an upturned waka. Europeans later called it Bethells Beach, after the family that still owns much of the land.
Bethells sits at the mouth of the Waitākere River, roughly 45 minutes from the CBD via Scenic Drive and Bethells Road. It's a small, tightly held settlement of around 260 residents and we treat it as standard service territory.
